Mojang Now Officially Part Of Microsoft

Microsofts bid to acquire Mojang is now complete. The Minecraft studio is now officially part of the Xbox portfolio.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced the news via Twitter this morning. “It’s official, today we welcome Mojang to the Microsoft Studios family,” he writes. “We’re excited for the possibilities ahead w/the Minecraft community.”

Microsoft and Mojang announced the $2.5 billion deal in September, alongside news that company founders Markus “Notch” Persson, Carl Manneh, and Jakob Porsér would depart. Following the news, Persson posted a personal message on his blog stating that his decision to part ways with the company saying it was, in part, for his own health.

At the time of the announcement, Microsoft suggested that it would break even on the purchase by the end of its fiscal year on June 30, 2015. Microsoft has no plans to restrict or remove Minecraft on any platforms.
