Microsoft’s Xbox Live online service is wildly popular with gamers, now boasting over 35 million users worldwide.
Microsoft Xbox Live marketing manager Robin Burrowes revealed this tidbit in an interview with Joystiq, saying, “Our audience growth is up to 35 million people globally across those 35 countries on Xbox Live itself.”
He declined to specify how the 35 million figure was divided up amongst paid (Gold) members and free accounts. However, he did tell Joystiq that more of Microsoft’s revenue comes from transactions (purchases of games, DLC, and other digital items) than subscription fees.
This new figure of 35 million is up five million from numbers released last year. In January of this year, Microsoft said that it’s sold 50 million Xbox 360s worldwide — so there are still 15 million users out there that haven’t signed up for Xbox Live.
